A-HA SAY GOODBYE WITH A FAREWELL TOUR 2010

  • A fantastic international career spanning almost 3 decades of making pop history.
  • 9 studio albums with sales in excess of 35 million - 70 million units including singles.
  • 15 top ten singles in the UK alone. Nominations, awards, and multiple world tours - including the legendary show at the Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janeiro in 1992, which earned a Guinness World Record for the largest-ever audience attendance at a paid concert - a whopping 196.000 people!

In the mid 80's, the Norwegian trio generated teenage hysteria and general pandemonium wherever they went. Since reforming in 1999 after a 7-year hiatus, the band has seen the focus shift away from the pop phenomenon they once were towards the musical legacy they leave behind - inspiring a whole generation of esteemed artists of today, from Coldplay and Keane, to Kanye West, Oasis, The Strokes, Robbie Williams, even U2.

In 2006 the band received a 'Q Inspiration Award' in honor of their lasting musical influence.

With the current album 'Foot of The Mountain' enjoying both commercial success and critical acclaim, A-ha has decided to call it a day.

As a consequence, A-ha will not be releasing any further albums in the future.

The band would like to thank their fans and everyone who has contributed to their amazing journey, and say:

'We've literally lived the ultimate boy's adventure tale, through a longer, more rewarding career than anyone could hope for.
Doing this now will give us a chance to get more involved in other meaningful aspects of life, be it humanitarian work, politics, or whatever else - and of course through new constellations in the field of art and music. We are retiring as a band, not as individuals.
Change is always difficult and It is easy to get set in one's ways. Now it is time to move on.'

2010 marks the 25-year anniversary of A-ha's multi-platinum debut album 'Hunting High & Low' and the debut single 'Take On Me' which with the aid of a truly unforgettable video went on to become a number 1 in 27 countries worldwide, including USA.

The band will make a final world tour in 2010 to end their collaboration on a high note.
The last concert will take place in Oslo on December the 4th. See you there!

And as I'm looking for the list of tour countries - mine is not listed - so they've been here for tens of years but never actually visited Slovakia - that's very sad.

Anyway, BIG BIG THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MUSIC - all of 3 are WONDERFUL ARTISTS and PEOPLE as well! Hat off.

Totally upset. This is not the happy ending they could have achieved - doesn't sound like they're happy any more though.

I beg that they can confirm a Hunting High and Low remaster and a possible farewell single to promote tour.

As solo artists they are nothing compared to A-ha in my opinion. Savoy and Magne F are good but not that good. I thought A-ha had another 2 albums left yet.

Wow....I only got to see them here in the U.S once and that was about 24 years ago.  How depressing....  Well I guess I can't miss what I never had in the first place, was just hoping to get a chance to hear all the music that I had to dig up from over sea's played live.  I always find it sad when good bands break up because there's so many BAD bands out there waiting to take it's place in the spotlight that don't deserve to be there.
Well guys, I wish you luck and peace on all your new journey's after this stint is over.  I'm just sorry we here in the U.S. didn't get to see as much of you as EU did.  You are still loved over here!  XO and Good Luck with everything!  I truely hope to see you here on the 2010 tour.

I was in the middle of work and received a text..... I didn't believe it was true.

But I'm surprised they keep going - I was surprised to rediscover the band in 2006, and I always kinda knew we were lucky to still have A-ha together, and that a day such as this would come.... also, they split up once before - it didn't last long!!!

I'm surprised by this news, but I would like to view this as a positive thing - no OMGs from me - it gives the guys more time to work on solo projects which can only benefit from having additional time to work on them, including Apparatjik, and I'll look forward to Magne's art - I might create some special art work for the occasion, you never know!
Always good to go out on a high, and A-ha will always have a special place in my heart, whatever they do xx

This must have been a tough decision for the individuals of the band, but a decision I fully respect.

A-ha is the first band I followed as a teenager back in 1985, and they became my only artist I followed their music with interest. My attraction to A-Ha was not because of the fashion or the hysteria that surrounded them back then, but because of a deep attraction their music that resonated with me. For me this has been a very personal journey, without meeting any of the members of A-ha, I felt through their music filled my life with essence, and they made my life carry more meaning than not having them.  I can not imagine how the world would be without more of A-ha's music shining, but I am greatly thankful for holding out so long, and giving us so much... I will cherish my memories and I wish Magne, Morten and Pal the best of wishes... Thank you so much...

There's never a forever thing.....

I have only gratitude, for the 25 years that we have all been so very fortunate to have had. As a fan from 1984, when that first pre-Tarney demo of Take on me spluttered onto the London music milieu, they seem to have acquired and retained that canny knack of writing lyrics and setting them to melodies which I, and many many others have been able to apply to our own hopes, dreams, fears and anxieties. We drew solace from the knowledge that someone out there felt what we did.

Their music will always be recognised by true fans as delivering so much more than a clever synth hook and clean cut pop image. We grew into the thirty- and fortysomethings that we are today, shaped in part by the cultural experience of absorption of their creations - and we are richer for it.

To those who are about to retire, we salute you......

Noooo!! I'm shocked and honestly can't believe this. However I can understand and I would like to thank Morten, Paul and Mags for 25 years of magical music and fantastic videos. I've been a fan since I first saw the video for "Take On Me" in the 80s and always love seeing new videos from the band. Having recently started to listen to Morten's solo material I hope he will continue with that and I hope we will get to see some more of him and the band on tv here in the UK before the end of 2010. I hope they will release more singles in 2010 if they are not doing any more albums. I'm looking forward to seeing them on tour this year and in 2010 and wish them all the best for the future.

Thank you A-Ha, you've been brilliant.

Dear A-ha.

I was 7 when you came into my life, you were touted as a "Girls" band and I used to get stick from school chums about listening to Take on me, and singing it at the top of my voice in the playground. I didn't care, I love a-ha.

I remember Touchy coming out and my friend (who was a girl lol) had it on a 12" vinyl invited me round to listen to it and we kept repeating it till her mum shouted at us.  Fond memories.

You went away for a while but blew my head off with my favourite album MEMS in 2000. I introduced my Girlfriend to you guys and in 2005 we saw you for our first time live at Wembley, in 2008 we played your songs at our wedding and now my wife and I listen in excitement at the new album and look forward to the gig at the O2 in a few weeks time.  Now you tell us it’s all over......... (well in a year’s time).

I'm 31 now, for close to 25 years you have been there.  I always laughed when people say their life has ended when their favourite band has split up....... but in some ways I can see their point, and of course my life isn't over but I will miss you all terribly - as while I love your solo stuff nothing beats when you 3 join together and Record, perform and play as A-ha. Your retiring A-ha but I’m only 31 I can't retire me.  I hope that one day you'll reconsider and in say 10 years or so have the "comeback" gig and tour - by then I hope I’ll have children I’ve always wanted and they will be able to see what I have seen in my life - how brilliant and wonderful you are performing live as A-ha!

There will be more new generations of A-ha fans, I ask only thing - Always leave the door open to reunite so we can all bring our kids to one of your gigs in the future.  When I was a Kid I also loved Genesis, I was so grateful to them to reunite in 2007 - I finally got to see them live.  Some bands don't reunite - Abba for instance - and its a shame that their fans and new generations of fans have never got to see them play live ever since, I also love Abba, but I’ve never seen them live and its a real shame.

Believe it or not, I now play and sing in a band, and we play I've been losing you, so its gone from Playground to Pubs and clubs for me - I’ll always sing your songs - keeping the A-ha flame alive!

Pace and love fellas.

Exceptionally heinous.  But thank you for 25 great years of tears, joy, and amazing memories, guys.  As one of those kooky U.S. fans who showed up on Morten's parents' doorstep on Christmas Eve outside of Oslo back in 1986, I will miss your new tunes.  But the old ones have given me so much.  Hope you decide to come to the U.S. for a couple shows in 2010 so we get a last chance to see you together (San Diego would be ideal, but LA or San Francisco are good too).

You are, without a doubt, the most influential band of my life.  Thanks, guys, for everything.  Keep the faith and keep sharing your talents (individual) with the world - you have so many!

I still hope though that neither of you are giving up on music and art, because you can create wonders and this world still needs a lot of wonder to make it a better place.
I hope you will stay on your own roads with the certainty that there are still so many out there who will never cease to love you and your work, even when apart....!

A real shame. The material in current and the last album is astounding. The recent publicity and good music has certainly reminded everyone of there talent and put them back in the limelight as one of the greatest bands of all time.

As a fan from day one, I have all the early material including both 7" and  12" singles and the albums on vinyl still. It feels like the end of an era for me. It is sad that bands feel that they have to call it a day. Whatever happened to taking a break?

Of course, if they did there would be no onus on when and/or if to make new  material, but to get together from time to time for the odd few tracks at concerts and Charity events etc wouldn't hurt, perhaps the odd tour with the existing material once a decade or so? With such a large and loyal fan base they would always receive the praise and support they need.

Looking forward to seeing them next month however at Birmingham NIA, I will most certainly be purchasing tickets for the fairwell tour next year.

GL with your futures guys and all that you wish to do and achieve. Thank you for that which you have provided us with, your music never tires, it still and always will sends shivers down my spine and make those small hairs stand on end. Such thought provoking lyrics and amazing musical production.

You will be sorely missed.

a-ha should release in 2010 the following items to finish their career:

- A 25th anniversary edition of "Hunting High And Low".
- A 25th anniversary edition of "Take On Me" (as a single).
- A "farewell compilation album" (something like 3CDs + DVD or even better).
- A "farewell live album" from the World Tour 2010.
- A DVD/Blu-ray includng ALL of the music videos (the commercial videos, like "Dark Is The Night" and others too).
- A DVD/Blu-ray from the band live, like "Live at Vallhall"
- A new photo book.
- A "definitive biography" of the band (like, "The Swing of Things").

And, of course, not as a digital dowload that a-ha seems to like a lot these days, but a physical release.

(I hope they listen to me :-P)

Of course, like all other fans, I'm sad about this news...... A-ha has been very important in my life. Their music helped me through some rough times in my life. Allthough their music mostly is melancholic, they always managed to cheer me up, because their sound is wonderful when they work together. Because of them, I also started singing and some people say, Mortens voice surely influenced mine (but I don't think so). I will surely miss them and new material, but i respect their decision.
At least it is nice they let us know right now they want to stop (so everybody hopefully gets a chance to see them live for the last time. I hope they visit many places in the world in 2010, so that the fans all over the world will have a possibility to say farewell. A concert in the Netherlands would be great, and I hope they will make some fans in countries where they have not played for a long time also very happy. And...... a DVD of their last concert or their last tour would be very nice. I'm sure many people would buy it, so I hope the management considers making a DVD as a thank you for the fans.
The concert in Cologne will not be the same for me now I heard this news, but I will enjoy every minute of it and I hope they will come back one more time in my neighbourhood.
And of course, I wish Morten, Paul and Magne all the best for the future, and I hope, they will not disappear for us completely!

Greetings from the Netherlands,

This is absolutely the worst news. I feel like a family member has died. I’m sure it sounds stupid to some, to be so emotionally attached to a “rock band”, but thank God we have been granted the ability to do so. a-ha’s music is like no other, and is the ONLY group I often listen to several albums in a row. I am completely devastated. a-ha IS my favorite group, right up there with ABBA, and I was confident (or SO wanted to believe), that the guys had discovered that being a member of a-ha was their calling, what they were put on earth to do, and something they would continue to do ‘til the end like Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones. a-ha, PLEASE don’t let the music stop.

Oh, this is really disappointing news. I have eclectic tastes, but A-Ha was my musical core. Their music has consitantly hit the mark - no matter where they go stylistically, their sound always takes me with them. There's a song for every mood or occassion. Whether it's 'Early Morning', 'Time and again' or 'Analogue'  - I'm in my element. I really don't think I can pick a favourite song. Perhaps that's the definition of a fan; when you love them all equally?

I suppose the cliché that, 'all good things come to an end', will be repeated over and over - and I would certainly agree with many of you here who say that A-Ha deserve to move on now, and leave on a high. It's time to be thankful for what they have given us.

The first live gig I ever attended was A-Ha in Dundee in '86. I'll also be at the O2 in a few weeks and I hope to get a ticket for Oslo 2010. (Me and thousands of others!)

Solo projects will keep the guys in our sights, and if we're really lucky there's a chance, sometime in the future, that they'll feel the reunion itch and be tempted to scratch it.

Thank you Pål, Magne and Morten. With a great deal of affection I say, good luck.

I guess it takes common sense & guts to say bye at this point. I just admire a band that can quit, still at top (FOTM is clearly a masterpiece).

Thank you guys for being part of my life almost 25 years.

PS : Last A-ha visit in Montreal, Canada was in 1987. Could we expect, at least, one night for the last tour? I never saw the band live and there is no i'm gonna miss this...

P L E A S E  :  MORTEN, MAGNE, PAUL – PLEASE don’t end a-ha. Please, just take a break, even if for several years, if needed. There is no need to “end” a-ha. “The Beatles” are “ended”, not a-ha.

PLEASE, PLEASE announce a retraction of the band’s status from “Goodbye”, “Farewell”, “calling it a day”, etc., to merely, “Taking a break”. I would even be happy if you relegated yourselves to just being “studio musicians”, never having to tour; that would save you a lot of time and energy for your other aspirations, and then the world could still be bettered by your unmatched and irreplaceable collaborative talents.

PLEASE the world is in such decline and your music is more powerful (and affordable) than therapy.

PLEASE, I… WE BEG YOU NOT TO DISBAND. Could it be that you do not understand your impact and the healing power of a-ha’s music? You already ARE philanthropists – through your music;

PLEASE don’t prematurely terminate what so many desperately need.

Seems almost that you don't want the diehard fans on the 4th december 2010 to be there....

J' have my ticket for Bobino and two others for my familly. They know that a-ha is important but i couldn't imagine that it was the last time in France.

My daughter learn english with a-ha songs !

Everyone else has said it already, but I'll say it again: Your music has helped define the way I approach life; I've been a fan since 1988, and have constantly admired your artistry, work ethic, and continual creativeness in your composition.

I've had the pleasure seeing you at various U.K. venues over the past decade, and even had the lucky opportunity of meeting you at some good and (possibly) not good moments!

Though this news is a bit surprising in its timing, I trust you guys have made the mutual decision after many long, detailed discussions, which you no doubt have always had regarding all aspects of your career(s).

I will continue to treasure the music of your past, and the continuing artistic adventures of your solo futures!  Best of luck to all of you, and THANKS FOR THE MUSIC!

P.S.: If you can do a show or two anywhere in the U.S. next year, please do!

I wish that they got to tour the U.S. more often than they did. I've always been regretful that I couldn't go outside America to see them live. The rest of the world has been luckier for that.

This news simply hurts so much. I can't describe it. My 16 years old self has had her heart broken as an adult. I will miss them so very much. Their music will always be a happy point in my life.

I am absolutely gutted.  I'd heard the 25th year was going to be something special but this, its devastating news and not what I was expecting at all.  What is the real reason?  I feel we haven't really been told it.  Your music is great so why stop now?  you have years left in you yet.  I re-disovered you a few years back and was really pleased to be seeing you in Birmingham as I couldn't get to the RAH but I fear this could be the first and last time I see you live.  Please come to Birmingham in 2010 but  hey guys, 14 months in advance for ticket sales, thats a bit ott isn't it?   Hopefully the concerts for the UK won't be announced till after Xmas, we haven't all got money to spend this time of year, get the  hint?
A DVD would be great of the final tour hopefully your management will take note that this is what fans will want.  Thank you for the great music but you will be missed by thousands all over the world, I hope you don't just disappear and we never hear from any of you again.  It would be nice to hear what you are all up to once you have retired.  Good luck to you all for the future but I hope you realise what you have done to your thousands of fans.  And no, I'm not a youngster pining for a pop star, I'm just a bit older than you Morten and have always thought you were fantastic, I can't get enough of the sound of your voice, especially when you speak.  Hopefully though, you will all  have more time to spend with your families and I'm sure they won't mind that.  Good luck for the future.xxxx

Thank you for these times and I do hope to see you all so talented in your own ways, at least individually exploring in the future what vast capabilites you still have.

WORST NEWS EVER!!!

I have only had your music in my life for 2 months and then you break up.. UN-FAIRNESS!!! seriously I am heartbroken to hear this, and I'm even shaking and shivering!.. what a surprise.. unpleasant but yet a surprise..
it's not the fact that the odds of seeing you in concert is veeery bad that makes me sad, (.. okay maybe a little), but that there will be no more new a-ha music in the future. I would love to go to one of your concerts, but unless you come and visit Denmark during your tour I won't be able to make it..

man.. you just made the most incredible album of the decade, and thank you very much for that. it's probably the best way to go, while being on the top of the world, but this album just proves that you still got that special "it" you guys have, and maybe you haven't used all of "it" yet..

I might come to accept this in a few of months but until then it will just be sadness.
Even though there won't be new music in the future i will always love you and the music we've got from you...
good luck to all of you, for whatever the future brings.

It's become obvious that Paul is guitar oriented and Morten and Mags are electronically inclined.  I believe that this contributed to the parting of ways.
Sorry if my words seem harsh but I just can't believe this.  Well, if it has to end, this was the album to do it on because it was great and brought us back to the good old days.

I can't believe it. What led to this decision? I think it's too soon for them to give up a-ha. I agree with the other comments here. I feel sad and shocked. Paul was not doing the recent promotion with Morten and Mags. Was he the one who decided it was time for a-ha to break up? I am saddened and shocked by this news. I thought they'd go on at least a few more years and there would be at least one more studio album. Did they decide  they would quit before doing FOTM and that is why they did it as a synth album like their first ones? a-ha are the best band ever. I've been a big fan of theirs since 1985 when I first saw and heard TOM on MTV. I hope Morten will continue to release solo albums. This news is sudden and sad. I'll write more later....

I literally had a lump in my throat when this the news appeared....yes, indeed, A-Ha did deliver us an additional nine years and four albums.

Farewell to a an excellent trio that did in fact think of their fans by releasing an album that highly resembled their earlier sound of which we all fell in love with and are ending it on a very high note.

You seem to amaze me that your earlier sound was expressed again on your last release and that you still have catchy pop songs that rank high as those earlier releases. There is no band nearly comparable to you three...I love you u guys very much and wish you all well. Please continue to stay friends and always remember that the future can hold many memories, even if they are relived again. Come out of retirement, A-Ha whenever you want. This is hard to believe - I thought when A-ha signed with Universal that they were contracted to do 3 albums & they have done 2 so far ??? I think there might be more to do with this than meets the eye & I think it's something to do with Pal . Anyway this is a sad day & I've been a big fan of A-ha since day one , I just wish they had said they would do one more album & give it there all & then call it quits cause I bet they have heaps of material left over from there work on Foot of the mountain .

I am only sad... very, very sad. A-ha was part of my life for now 24 years, I growed up with it, the music was always with me in my good and bad times. Because of my pregnancy I am not able to join one of the german concerts and I thought for me "ok... the next one again with me" and now? No more concert, no more magic moments when they enter the stage and the crowd starts getting more crazy. It was a wonderful time with this music, with Morten, Mags and Pal.

For the future I wish everyone of them healthy, lot of creativity (for whatever, I hope wonderful music) and good luck. The music will stay forever, my memories will stay forever.

We need to respect the decision. But it is very hard. And sad.

I won't say "don't do it!" because it is your right to decide when it's time to retire....and you're doing exactly as your career was: elegantly.
Thank you for not making any compromise in your music for the sake of a an ephemere musical success...thank your remaining with your feet on the ground, thank your for your respect for the fans and for the music.

Hello colleagues
Like most of you I had several different emotons when I heard about the end of a-ha.
- what? speachless
- Oh no!!!
- What should I do in the future? no new songs?
- It is a good time for a stop. 25 years, good life, a beatiful album in the charts. and a world tour.

so, all what I could do was to buy 2 Tickets for the last concert in Oslo. I have no idea how I will come there but, I'm sure I will arrange that :-)

So happy, that I could feel this perfect music (for me) and had the chance to make the expierience of mind-flying with this sound.
All what I can say is:
Thank you!!

And I'm so happy and can't wait for the concert in Oslo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We will rock the place. So be prepared :-)

Hi Guys,
And thanks for everything, and still more...
We just have to accept, and easily, pages have to be turned sometimes...
But...
Why not ending live shows and going on with studio albums ? The Beatles made that in the past...
Or even, not albums, but songs, one per year or even less, like a rendez-vous, something very special ? Isn't that an idea ?!
A-ha could be the never ending story...
Hope you'll think about that :)
Till that, tickets taken for the last show.

Recently my life collapsed from every side and a-ha was the only brightside and the only opened window in my life .Now it is closed and my life too. Please stay a-ha and don't just walk away..

Just bought tickets for the Oslo concert. And I live in New Zealand - that shows how much I love these guys. I bought HH&L when I was 15 - I was already a keyboard player in a band, and loved a-ha's sound. That love has never really left me - I recently bought Foot Of The Mountain - and it's fantastic. I'll be bringing my family over from NZ - including my 15 year old daughter, who is also a fan - so the cycle is complete.

Hi folks,
is this the way to thank us for 25 years of faith??? I`m really, really angry.
I could give them poison and when I met them, I will kill them.
Is it really possible that three people could make such greatfull art together, but in private life they nearly hate another. I think thats a typical male problem, everyone wants to be the boss and everyone
must go with his head through the wall.
I imagined to get old and grey with their misic and they make it like the Stones, sometimes all little new album or sometimes to go on tour. So lets make the best of it and join all the last concert in Oslo and have a big big farewell party.

You will be sorely missed. I feel a big black hole coming and I don't know how or who could ever fill it.

Lost for words and deeply, deeply saddened,....but not entirely surprised.

To think that there will be no more of that incredible music and that amazing voice,..this just doesn't seem right.  The other part of me is saying "I understand".

I have been there from the very beginning, as a young 17 year old who joined many other screaming fans at Melbourne Airport to welcome a-ha to our lands (I was the one who tried to climb the security fence), and subsequently attended all 4 of the Melbourne concerts held in June 1986 (my sister and I were the ones on the chanel 10 news that evening).

I have been there ever since and waited,...hoped,....prayed that you would come back to Australia one day for more concerts.

I caught up on news of the band on this and other sites, regularly, as well as watched interviews and music clips on YouTube just to keep informed.  I bought every piece of your music, often buying from overseas when I couldn't find what I wanted in Australia.

Having been there from the beginning, I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible music which has had such a profound effect on my life in a way that I cannot describe right at this moment (I'm too choked up).  Thank you doesn't seem adequate enough but I mean it with every essence of my being,....humbly and with enormous gratitude,..thank you.

I am now 41 and to this day I cannot think of any other band whose music has effected me like yours has.   It is simply indescribable.  A-ha YOU ARE THE GREATEST,...ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, ALWAYS WILL, BE NO MATTER WHAT COMES AFTER YOU,....YOU ARE LEGENDARY.

What an amazing career, and a truly remarkable journey for all of you.  I wish you all only the very, very best in your future endeavours, as you so richly deserve.   God Bless XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Katherine OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've been a fan since 1998, I was 8 years old back then. I've never really had another favourite band since I discovered you. I remember my first record was a cassette that I got for christmas. It was "Headlines and Deadlines - The hits of a-ha". The trip to Trondheim in 2006 to see your concert was probably the best trip I've ever had so far and I sincerely hope you will be visiting Estonia next year when you do your last tour, I would with no doubt be certainly there. And if you don't make it here, I would probably try to arrange a trip to a nearby country. Wouldn't wan't to miss out that last concert.

I am one of those quiet fans that have followed a-ha from a distance, yes I have been to many concerts from the 80's right through to the 'noughties' but I was always the one that just stood there and listened and yes I have every single and album, and I have their calender next to my desk at work and woe betide any person who mocks them.

I took my now sixteen year old daughter to her first concert to see a-ha in Brighton, when we were driving there she said "I hope we're not surrounded by loads of screaming girls" and who was standing on her chair screaming the loudest? yes, my daughter, and as a momento of that evening we managed to get a bottle of water that Morten had used which has been on my bedside cabinet ever since. She wanted to go up to the signings at HMV in London to have a chance to meet them, but I said no, I have followed them for so long I did not want to shatter my illusion of who they were on the stage.

So now it's time to say goodbye to the three guys from Norway and I would personally like to thank you all for the ultimate pleasure that your music has given me and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Farewell to.............

Paul with your dark quiet soulful demeanour on stage.

Mags who can resist your boyish charm and who has aged like a fine wine, just gets better as it gets older!!!!

and

Morten, never really comfortable in the limelight......but was given the gift of that voice.

I wish you all well in whatever directions life takes you, I do not like goodbyes so I will just say.........

See ya.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person brought to tears by this news!

I'm only 18 & discovered A-ha when I was about 15, so it's been a short time for me. But what an amazing time it's been! I found this band that inspired, motivated and educated me. Like many other fans, the music of A-ha has been both consolation in times of need, and something to help celebrate the best of times.

I don't think there'll ever be something else like A-ha - so passionate, so unique and so intelligent!

You guys are the reason I make music, write, and the reason I'm an artist. I found my callings in life all thanks to you!

So, all I can do is thank you. These words are no match for what you've given me these past 3 years, but they're all I can give for now. Good luck with everything else that happens - I wish you every success, 'cos there's not many who deserve it like you do!

I am really sad to hear the news that A-ha are retriing as a band.I have been an A-ha fan since I first heard Take on me on the radio for the first time in 1985 and I became a big a-ha fan straight away.I love all their music and Lifelines will always have a special place in my heart.I Listen to A-ha's music practically every day and have always looked forward to  their new material.A-ha you have been an inspiration and thankyou for giving us 25 years of incredaible music and fantastic concerts.I have seen you guys in concert 10 times over the years and I am looking forward to the O2 concert in November and I will treasure this concert with all my heart as I know it might be the last one I get to go to.I hope I may be lucky enough ot see you next year at some point aswell.I have so many great memories of been an A-ha fan for the last 25 years and you will always be my number 1 band.Your music will live with me forever and I will continue listening to all the Cd's I have collected over the years.I am so glad I got to attend the Magic Indulgence event as that was a special evening that I will always treasure.
Your music has helped me through many times in my life and for this I will always be grateful.Morten ,Magne and Paul you are the greatest, most talented and beautiful people so thankyou for sharing your wonderful journey with so many people and I wish you all the luck in the world for whatever you choose to do and I hope we can be kept informed on all your projects that you will now work on.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou from the bottom of my heart
See you at the O2 Arena in November and hope I get the oppurtunity to get Magne's autograph to complete my collection.

I agree with what everyone else has said here. a-ha, your music is and has always been amazing and wonderful. What extremly talented and creative geniuses you guys are! And there is no-one else who has Mortens incredible, amazing voice! Morten is by far the best singer ever!
I feel Paul is actually responsible for the split up. Why? Because he has left it to Morten and Mags to do the interviews for FOTM , he made a few brief appearences ( not including the concerts of course) and at those interviews said very little and seemed very bored, Morten and Mags were enthused but not Paul. Now I understand Paul is shy (I am too), but he seemed very apathetic and  disinterested, like he just wants the whole thing to be over. And in the Swing Of Things book he is quoted as saying he has much more interest in Savoy than in a-ha and that he'd rather give his best songs to Savoy. So, I feel Paul is the one who wants a-ha to end now.
But Morten, Mags and Paul: do you really feel that a-ha has reached its  full potential? That you have no creative ideas left? Did a-ha become all that you had hoped for, dreamed of and aimed for?
FOTM is a  wonderful album, indeed one of your very best! But could you at least  record one more stuidio album? You need not break up. You can take the time you guys need to do other things you wish to pursue, and then come back together for another album as a-ha. When you think back to the early 80's when the three of you first began creating the band, do you honestly feel that you have accomplished everything that you set your hearts on and now have nothing more to  achieve? Has a-ha finally reached its full potential?
I hope you will soon do interviews and let us know what really is behind this desicion to end the group. I hope all three of you will have continued success with all of your future endevors. Morten, I hope you will continue to  record your solo albums.
I thank you guys for the great music you gave us. I just feel it is premature for you to just end now.
Could you reconsider and in a few years  get together to record a new album? I just wish you had let us know this was coming and not suddenly announce it out of the clear blue sky. We  have never met yet I feel like I know you guys. I hope you will reconsider and want you to know that I wish you the very best just like all your other fans here, and will look forword to your individual future  albums.
Since your contract with Universal is for 3 albums will you be coming out with a live album of your farewell tour? Will you release as CD singles Riding The Crest and The Bandstand? What about the photo book that was  going to be out next year- is that still on? Will there be a new biography about a-ha in English? I hope so!
I'm very sad and shocked by the news of your splitting up. Will there be any possibility of any future corroborations between you guys in the future on your other projects?
You are my favorite band and no-one else is in your league. I wish you could have gotten the recognition you really deserve, especially here in the USA.  I hope you really do feel happy about the success you did acheive and the wonderful music you produced. Thank you for sharing your wonderful creativity and amazing talent with us! And Morten, do not give up your music career. You have to keep singing!
thanks again, a-ha! I wish you all the best!

It was a sad day once I heard the news.  I do hope the band or someone at the record label reads this because there is some thoughts I think they should look into.

I remember hearing that there 1st album might be re-mastered and released.  I know they said no more albums planned, but not done yet.  This plan doesn't require them to work on new stuff nor go in the studio.

There is one thing that a-ha hasn't done in there long, GREAT music career.  BOXSET!!!!   Just as a goodbye gift for there die-hard fans.  Why not release a box set with the 1st album re-mastered, a collection of unreleased songs,  studio/rough cut songs and a DVD from there final concert.  What a goodbye gift that would be.

I know the concert in New York back in 2006(if I remember correctly) was recorded and per there website at that time. Was going to be released on DVD later.  That never happened.  Maybe include that in the BOXSET.

Again, this is just a thought as a going away gift to there fans.  I'm sure there are a lot of unreleased material and if this is really going to be it. Why not just release everything. Don't hold anything back.

I loved the cd they included in the last a-ha book that had some older songs that were not released before. Release more of that.

Again, this is just a thought since it's the only thing they haven't done yet.

Well, I understand the guys point and look forward to seeing what they do after a-ha.  I wish they would keep a-ha as a side project that maybe every 4-5 or so years they get back together for a year or 2 and then go back doing there own thing.

I wish the guys all the best and thank them for there songs.  They never got the respect from USA record labels that they should have gotten.  I still get people hooked on them when I play any of there new stuff.  Still don't understand how no USA record label signed them and release there albums in the USA market.

I can't wait for details for there USA tour stops in 2010 and only hope they perform more then in just one city in the U.S.

All the best,
Garth

It is with great heartache and sadness that I receive this news.
You have done for more than half of my life (I am a fan since I was 13 years). There were many good stories and sad that in an indirect part in my life.
When you return to the "Minor Earth, Major Sky" in 2000, our, jumped for joy. I gathered the money and bought the cd. The same happened with "Lifelines", which turned out to me the best album post back.
The sorrow is great, but then, you three will follow with their projects and private plans, say by the way are also wonderful. And that's good. because I can continue following you, on an individual basis, with the same satisfaction.
Finally, the A-ha ends more will live forever in my heart.
Thanks for everything, guys! See you next year here in Brazil!

I usually check this site everyday, but this last week I was too busy and couldn't do it since wednesday. I knew the notice yesterday night, watching Shadowside video - again -, in Youtube. I couldn't believe it. I run to check it on here in the official place.
I was shocked to discover it was truth. Totally schoc-ked. I can't believe what somebody of you fellows fans says here about expecting it, can't believe any of us could expect it was going to happen just right now, in the middle of everything again: interviews, shows, concerts, this Fantastic Album. It has not been just a simple sign...! So last night I went to bed crying and hysterical, furious, angry ..., cause, repeat, it has been a totally unexpected.
Today I wake up still with anger and disbelieve, but I feel it's going to become a feeling of total and only sadness. Or desolation.
But still can't undestand why just right now. And in this way, suddenly, almost something abrupt... Please, M&P&M, tell us more, tell us why and if it's going really to be forever, TALK TO US.
I love you since your beginning, when I was just a child. You have been essential part of my life all of these years, decades, and especially right know I was again feeling so, SO happy and excited watching you again, reading about you again, listening to you like always.
I love you, three guys, from the bottom of my heart.

What a message....

a-ha will stop producing music... were'll be no further albums... thats really a pitty!
This year and the year before a lot of things happened in the music business.
The US Band TOTO disbanded, SAGA's lead vocalist Sadler left the Band,  Michael Jackson died in June this year ... and the next great band "a-ha" will retire next year.
I hope that some established bands will survive in the future; bands with quality, with "handmade music" ... that's what I love :-)

I'm hoping you will change your minds after the 2010 tour and you've had a chance to rest, do some other things and look back on it all with another perspective. Perhaps you will see reasons to work together as a-ha again from time to time? I hope so! Either way, I wish you the best in whatever you do.

"Now some time has passed
you're ever so slightly off
...
And though everything moves along
You're hoping that rumor's wrong
that Mother Nature goes to Heaven"

Now, three days after the sad news, it's a little more easy to come to terms with it. Still don't get it, still think you have so much more to give. The three of you together, I mean. I second the idea that someone expressed above: maybe you could do only studio album, maybe more spaced out. The music world would be so much more poor without your music, without you still around. Paul's melodies and lyrics, Magne's arrangements and orchestrations, Morten's voice and performance build a unique combination: soaring melodies, uplifting melancholy, music that goes straight to the heart.

How can you take away all that from us? The thought that there won't be new music from a-ha, that we'll have to talk about you as past, that we'll have to be contented of the old songs... it's too heart-wrenching to mention or to think of. But I understand your need to be free to explore new grounds, each of you alone, to not negotiate or compromise with the market, with the others, with yourselves. I just wish this could be possible without ending up a-ha.

I loved you as an adolescent (and I was in love for Morten... :-P), then I lost sight of you when I was 20 and my life went under big changes. But your music still lingered in me, and I listened at it everytime I needed inspiration or comfort. I rediscovered you and your music just a year ago, by chance, and a whole new world opened up to me. I was struck by your albums post-2000, I couldn't believe you were still so good, even better than before! I was SO happy, and thought to have still many years of music ahead of me. I never made it to see you live, and watched eagerly the videos of your concerts on YouTube, and thought of when I would see you for the first time. Now I will be in London, and in Oslo next year, but it will be so sad to know that there won't be new concerts after that... :-( But that's it. We'll have to accept that and go on. I wish you all the best, and I'll keep to follow your individual careers, tough it would never be the same thing... :-(

I just have one BIG request. Please, can you put ITALY in your tour's plans? Your last concert in our country was ***22*** years ago. Still we fans never stopped following you, even abroad, and supporting you. Please, come to ITALY, so we can properly say goodbye to you. We're waiting for you...

I am saddened by this  news. I very likely would not have survived my early teen years without your music to pull me through. My life was very near to an end at many points in that time. I clung to my sanity and sensibility and just the ability to move on to the next day only from having the music you made carry me through it and making me feel life was worth living. To this day there are 5 special songs that still mean so much to me that they still bring tears to my eyes 25 years later!! I very well may not have survived through my teenage years without the help of your music.
I am truly thankful to you for your beautiful talents, as without them I most likely would not be here today happily married with 4 loving, wonderful children.
Thank you with my deepest of gratitude and best of wishes for your future endeavours.

Than I realised, that I can be happy to got so many beatiful times when I was listening all of this beatiful songs and my mind learnd to fly; my heart was open. :-) I loved to collect all tapes, singles, maxi-singles and yes, I realy loved it to come into the music-flow with a-ha. was this a perfect teenager-time :-)
However, now I'm 36 and I decided to book cards for the final last concert in Oslo. :-) never been there, but why not? I'm sure that will be fun and hey Oslo, be prepared, we will rock the house.

Now it becomes reality. A life without a-ha! It is hard to realize, hard to accept.

"Hunting high and low" was my first LP, "Scoundrel days" has been my first audio tape when i was seven years old. The music of a-ha supported me in my hole life, from my teen time in the mid eigthies till now. Everytime i felt down, everytime when a love has failed, they were there and gave me back strength...thx

I enjoyed every record of a-ha over 25 years... I think that a-ha is the most varied trio of all times. They made awesome pop music and i think the quality of their sounds are still unique in this world.
It has been a trio with 3 high talented individuals, and it is/was their magic symbiosis which kept our hearts and our minds for decades. A-ha were the only ones who made pop that rocks :-)

And hey, they warned us:

"It’s what it is
It’s what it was
It’s what it will be here
After us"

Good bye and good luck, you`re in my mind forever.

I love you for that.

That´s the reason why I beg you to include ARGENTINA in the last tour of this spectacular career. But, to "end on a high note", well done for such an achivement, for all the music and more personnaly, the impact you've had. For what it's worth, I owe it to you to have taken such an interest in English as soon as 11 (very wisely thinking that I would then be able to communicate in case I could meet you some day - very forward thinking), - and later Norwegian - that I've actually made it my passion and my work today.

Thanks a million for all and all the best for what's next - and see you on December 4th 2010!

You have a place in music history and I hope you know that there will always be a-ha fans in this world. They will always listen to your songs.
Thank you so much and see you in Hamburg next week.

Wow - very sad news, but you have to give these three guys credit for the amazing song writing skills, the musical talent and the amazing voice! From the power of the first 2 albums, the raw talent of albums 4&5 and the remarkable comeback with great songs such as lifelines and celice to name just 2.  It is a great shame we may not hear any new songs, and can only hope morten works with mags or another great song writer to suit his voice as we presume paul wont be working with them?
I look forward to another spell binding concert at the 02, but knowing we are not going to see future albums and songs from these guys i can only presume is a great loss to us all. Us fans owe these 3 guys a massive thank you and cheer them off every stage, with many tears in our eyes i am sure!
The music will live with us all!

Its been a long ride for a-ha and they've put out some really outstanding music over the years.  It
really doesn't surprise me that they have decided to call it a day next year.  They've put out such
an impressive collection of tunes since regrouping in 1999/ 2000,  going out on "a high note" as they've been quoted seems
to be bittersweet but they've managed to leave such an impression on all us fans that waited for
them to put out something that harkens back to their heyday and with Foot of the Mountain, a-ha
and especially the vocals of Morten Harket just soared again and showed so many why they are
such an enduring classy group of musicians.  I know that Mags will follow up his 2 great collections and
Paul will continue hopefully with this awesome band.  Morten puts out such amazing  solo cds that just
keep him peerless in the music world when it comes to that VOICE!  I will miss trying to keep up
with what they will come up with next. I always compared them in some ways to the great period
the Moody Blues had with their run of excellent music back in the late 60's into the 70's.  That's just my take on this band, I'm sure everyone has their opinions on a-ha.    Life moves on  and I wish A-ha the best in their lives.  I
don't think this is the end of them as individuals, I look forward to all that they will contribute to making the world a better place through music, art and humanitarian efforts. Thanks for all the
wonderful memories,  I hope I get to see them in the US (Boston) area when they tour here  in
2010.

hi everyone,no words to explain my sadness. However to describe the"real meaning"of a-ha:the other day i was driving and my passenger was a child of nine, one of my friend's son. He was asking about my trip to birmingham to see the a-ha concert, and he asked me to listen to something.I put on " foot of the mountain",he stood in silence all through the song, then i put the music off and he said"can you put that song again?".I did, without saying a word.He put his head on the back seat, and started to look something which was not there.....he was dreaming!
That has been the real meaning of a-ha's music, their big power, that's why we ,who are able to catch it,are going to loose so much.
Thanks for dreamings guys

Heard the news whilst on holiday in Spain, going to make the upcoming concerts very sad events for many... can't believe it was so casually announced on the site, had to read it a couple of times to sink in! Very strange, as the news seems to contradict the interviews that were given when promoting fotm which inferred that the group were still out there exploring further exciting developments in the bands sound with a view to future albums... alas, disappointingly this will never happen.  Always thought Magne and Morten looked bemused when A-ha's "comeback" (yawn) was continually mooted on UK TV - they never actually went away, maybe a sense of irony here. Must say however much i have enjoyed Morton / MF's solo albums and Savoy too these projects never quite match up to the magic of A-ha's sound...

I send the guys my best wishes and thank them for the excellent memories and fantastic albums. Hope to hear from them all, in the not too distant future, at least in one form or another.

PS there are too many politicians in the world today, great musicians on the other hand......LOL

Dear Morten, Mags & Pal,

It's hard to believe that we've spent nearly 25 years together, in many ways it's been like a marriage, ups and downs, but even after your last concert you guys will always be a part of my live and every fan's life.  We grown into one big family and you guys will be sorely missed. Your plans to retire as a band are not altogether surprising, something's been in the air for a while but when the moment came that you acutally announced the final tour, it was hard to take in.

I fully appreciate your desire to move on and to leave on a high note and, as Morten can hold a high note so beautifully for a long time, there's always the option to come back (as you'll miss us no doubt!).  The most important thing for you guys is to be true to yourselves, that's all that really matters in the end.

There are many ways to be creative, designing loo seats being one of them, so I know who to contact should the need arise. Scandiavian design tends to be sleek and elegant and I'm sure Morten's efforts would be worth the wait.  (Don't worry Mags ...and of course there's Savoy as well!)

I look forward to seeing you guys at the O2, in Oslo and who knows where else.  Your music has been and always will be a most precious gift!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Yours truly and forever,

I just saw the brief interview with Morten , Mags and Paul on youtube. I was wrong. I thought that it was Paul who wanted a-ha to end. Not so! He mentioned he would have continued on with a-ha and even had songs for the next a-ha album! Morten wore sunglasses and seemed sad, Mags was determined that this is it for a-ha. I hope not. I hope by 2011 they will have re-evaluted their decision and a-ha will continue. But if not, perhaps Morten would like some of Pauls songs and decide to record them? its possible!

No joke, I think I was the only true fan from Massachusetts, USA. I wouldn't doubt that at all. I still look for all the albums regularly as they are not so easy to buy here in the 'states.' For some, I thank NewBury Comics for having some and of course my pals from former years in Europe that have blessed me with MP3 Copies and some hanve been appreciated from Canadian folks I have met through college and internet chats.
Morten, Magne and Pal; you have been in my life all these years. I used to sleep with you in my ears. I was one of those pathetic pre-teen girls that "dreamt of moving to Norway and England to BE your groupie." LOL What a dork I was. Anyhow. And when you were tapped to do the song along with John whats his name for THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, totally awesome for me as I was a James Bond Fan before your band made recognition to the USA. I think I started liking James Bond movies when I was 3 (1980). Yeah, you looked hot in tuxes as well as tight jeans and leather and rawhide jewelry. DANG. I don't know how much I bugged my mom at every faire to buy some.
Your music and lyrics and choses together have helped me with some of my faith, beliefs and perseverence. Nothing can take that away, unless I acquire Alzheimer's Disease. I have very much appreciation for your unity all these years.
If I don't get a chance to see you in the USA for a "GoodBye Tour," your records be it as A-ha or Solo will always touch my heart and mind, move my soul and my body.
If you happen to schedule in TEXAS, I WILL BE THERE. Even if I need to bring my child(ren).

Peace and love to you and your family and friends. *kiss kiss*

To the fans here, keep buying and listening...

I saw you for the first time in concert at the O2 yesterday. Your London show was fantastic. It was a dream come true for me as I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 09...(luckily caught it early and all fine)...but I knew then I had to book the tickets to see you. Your music and lyrics are truly magical and magnificent and I'm so thrilled I got a chance to see you all yesterday. Will we get a chance to see you in London again in 2010?? If so, I would definitely like to book the tickets as soon as possible.

A huge THANK YOU for all your beautiful music...I so wish that you could carry on as you really do make such a difference to people's lives. GOOD LUCK in everything you do and I hope I'll see you in London again.

Well, even if I accept this unwelcome piece of news (no choice), it lets me a bitter taste in my mouth. I feel as I'm losing old friends, almost sure I won't see them again.
I've read A-ha will release 'Hunting high and low' album next year to celebrate the 25 years birthday of the group. An unplugged version would be great (but please, don't just release a remastered version).
Hope to see u in Belgium for your final world tour next year, then I could wave u goobye.

I have been a fan since the beginning and I have to say that Morten is the best vocalist in history [by a long shot]. A-Ha isn't that big in the states [for some strange reason] one that baffles my mind to this day. I hope and pray that they do come to the states for at least one concert and no matter where it is, I will be there. If they don't come to the states, I will see them in Germany. I am not going to miss this chance of a lifetime to witness Morten sing live. And the whole U2 comparison? There is no comparison, I think A-Ha blows them away in ever aspect, especially "class". Can't wait to see them. I watched them on you tube @ the Engers Castle concert in Germany [phenomenal] watch it, it will blow you away! Hope to see you all @ the concert!!!!

This is truly sad to hear. I totally understand about moving on and doing it on a high note... of course.
However, I remember seeing the "Take On Me" video when I was 15 years old and how I was blown away because I have never seen anything like it. In 1986 when you were here in New York I did not get to see you because of school obligations, I have always loved your music and because of this I have always bought every album, single and concert DVD that was available and finally did get to see you a few years later and no I believe in supporting the artist so I NEVER download music.
Every time I hear "Take on Me", "Summer Moved On", "Dragonfly" (just to name a few) I get a huge smile on my face. It might sound cheesy but your music brightens my day and I am saddened that there will no longer be that magic as a group to create more. I look forward to seeing you in 2010 and I wish you a fantastic tour.
I will still support your individual works and look forward to
